What are you reading?

Hey everyone,
It's time once again for INTERACTIVE MONDAY!!

My question today is What are you reading this summer? If you're like me, you're often too busy to read anything good during the school year. So when the summer months come around, you try to cram in everything that you've been missing for those nine months.

I just finished reading a Steve Martini book called The List. It was pretty good. Before that, I read a borrowed Philip K. Dick book called Martian Timeslip. That was all right, but sort of boring.

I'm going to the beach in a couple of weeks, so I'm looking for some suggestions on what might be good to take along!

So what have you read recently that is good? Or what are you planning on reading soon that you've heard good things about?

I am currently reading "Bringing Down The House" by Ben Mezrich. It is ok- but I have been so busy that I seem to have been trudging through it for ages. Two books I always recommend to people: "In Harms Way" and "A Simple Plan." I actually guarantee that you will love them.

Hurrah for summer reading! (this is my first vacation Monday, so I'm catching up on blogs and commenting :D)

I'm reading Love, Stargirl right now, it's the sequel to Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli.

I'm also reading a fun book I found at the dollar store (but it's a real book!) called The Time of the New Weather by Sean Murphy. It's kind of a wacky Brave New World/1984 story where gravity is no longer fixed and the country is bought and increasingly monitored by a corporation.

This afternoon I visited the local library, so now I've got four more books calling my name....

Oh, and if you've never read Lamb, by Christopher Moore, move that to Number 1 on your list, stat.

I could go on. Ooh, or maybe do an inspired companion post myself...hm, we'll see. :)

I am reading a whole bunch of teaching books which is just wrong in the summer but there you go. I ordered myself a couple of light summer reading books too -- one by Eloisa James and one by Meredith Gentry. Those should counter that effect!

I just finished reading A Framework of Understanding Poverty. It was really enlightening but also an easy read. I actually just posted about it on my blog. I am now reading Letters to a Young Teacher. On my to-read list, you'll find Educating Esme, Other People's Children, and Teach Like Your Hair's on Fire. And then there's this book called Learn Me Good by some guy. Have you heard of it?

Is it bad that I'm reading so many teacher books over the summer?

I'm almost finished with The Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread, which I cannot recommend highly enough. It is laugh out loud funny, and I am red faced with embarrassment that it took me so long to discover this little gem.

A book I read within the past couple of years and enjoyed a great deal is A World Lit Only By Fire. It's about life in the medieval ages, which sounds wildly pretentious, except that it's written like a novel. It's entertaining and informative. Two treats in one.

UST -- Is A Simple Plan the book that the Billy Bob Thornton/Bill Pullman movie is based on? That was a REALLY good movie...

J, what is Lamb about?

Strange, I may have heard of Learn Me Good... heard good things about it. ;)

Cupcake, sounds like 2 cool books to check out!

I've got three books going right now.

I am rereading The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende. I simply love that book. (The movie sucked.)

I'm reading Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen because I need to for my book club. Good read so far.

Finally, I am reading I'll Be Home Soon by Patricia McConnell. It's a dog training book that I am hoping will give me some tips for handling my WAAAAYYYYY-overly-attached-to-me husky and her separation anxiety issues. Wish me and my emotionally disturbed dog luck!

I saw an infomercial about a book called Learn Me Good and I was thinking about getting into that one next. We'll see...

I've been going back and forth from reading decent stuff to pure fluff. Tomorrow I have nothing going on and am looking forward to reading God's Middle Finger. Should be interesting to see which category it falls into. It's gotten mixed reviews.

Check out my Shelfari widget on my blog to see what I've recently read.

I just finished Hidden River by Adrian McKinty - a dark mystery by an Irish author.

Now I'm ready to get started on a couple of much lighter, fluffier mysteries by David Rosenfelt (his writing makes me laugh out loud).

I do have some professional books on my agenda. I'm moving from 5th grade to 1st so I want to read Teaching for Comprehension in Reading Grades K-2 and Launching the Writing Workshop.

Love seeing everyone's reading choices!

I just finished reading Jack Cafferty's It's Getting Ugly Out There. I also read a Joe Landsdale anthology, but the name of it escapes me at the moment.

Re-read Carl Hiassen's Skinny Dip, almost as funny as his Skin Tight

I'm reading a reprint of "Corporal Si Klegg and his Pard", which was originally published in 1887. It's a common soldier's view of the Civil War. Very entertaining. I've also just finished Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility." To be read soon are some biographies and some Lisa Scottoline mysteries. And probably some other history books, although I haven't decided yet. Hubster and I have about 3000 history books so I have a lot to chose from.

I'm reading Tools for Teaching now, so I don't have to read it during the school year.

For fun - Found Money. Also a good deal of Dr. Suess, when my niece is over.

Lamb's subtitle is The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. So you can guess what it might be about. :)
It is HILARIOUS and also very poignant. Seriously one of my all-time favorite books. EVERYONE should read it.

Another laugh out loud book is Kick Me, a memoir by Paul Feig, writer of Freaks and Geeks.

Looks like lots of other good books recommended! I'll have to add them to my list.
