Sheer craziness

So this "plan" came down the pipeline yesterday, and was (sort of) put into effect this morning.

4 of the 3rd grade teachers were conscripted to become tutors for small groups of 5th grade students who did not pass their TAKS tests and will be making a 2nd attempt in a couple of weeks. These teachers will be upstairs with the 5th grade all day, every day, until the next TAKS.

I was in the computer lab with my class when the principal came by to announce this. I don't know if that is the reason I was not chosen to be a tutor, or if the list was already set.

This morning, 2 of the teachers began the tutoring. There were no subs to be found for the other 2 teachers, so they were still in the 3rd grade hall with us.

At around 9:10 am, one of the subs ran into my room to tell me that someone had just thrown a chair in her room. I went over, and sure enough, it was the young man I had tested one-on-one last Thursday. He assured me he had not "thrown" the chair, but rather "pushed" it. (Nevermind that he has a history of chair throwing that would make Bobby Knight proud.)

I LOVE March Madness.

May Madness, I'm not so sure about...

Let us hope "Psycho" will be home for a couple of days.

Our school has changed course by interjecting CHAOS at critical times when order needs to be increased.

Sometimes it is just sad and sorry to be working at a place where half baked decisions are made and implemented at the last second.

Wait, so are you saying that 4 third grade classes will have subs for TWO WEEKS while their teachers tutor 5th graders?

Yep, that's exactly what I'm saying...

As a sub, I would love that. One of the things I don't like is that I don't get to have any sort of day to day interaction with the kids.

What are the (4?) 5th grade teachers doing?
They'd be cost-efficient subs. (sorry Chris, I enjoyed the multiple days in one class the few times it happened to me - just thinking of best use of precious substitute teacher resources - in May)

No, I totally get that. End of the year subs are probably something a lot of schools can do without. Have a field day/fun day/whatever and you really only need 2 or 3 people watching.

Not getting subs for this kind of thing would be a great way to save the school some money.

I've been hearing an awful lot of stories lately about kids throwing chairs. Maybe we need to think about bolting them to the floor...the chairs or the kids...
