How I spent my Christmas vacation

I realize that some people may have already gone back to school, but for me, this is my last weekend of freedom before classes resume on Tuesday. So I thought I would do something a little interactive.

If you are a reader of this blog, please leave a comment with some details about how you spent your break.

As for me, I slept in way too much, played way too much Guitar Hero, and spent way too much time surfing the net.

Let's hear from everyone else!

My twenty five year old hot tub which came with the house gave up after many years of my patching and tinkering to keep it going. I could have used it as a lil' fish pond skeeter breeder, or filled it with dirt to make a huge planter box but I decided to replace it. I did not see a defunct hot tub as a selling feature if I choose to sell and I love the tub when it is frosty out like it is every third day here when it isn't muggy warm as it today.
Workers removed the old one and installed the new one. I have had to rebuild parts of the deck. After six days the heater still won't come on. So I get to look at my new purchase. It looks like someone from Morgan Spas will be coming over next week to make it right.

Other than that I watched a lot of DVDs. Took care of all my leaves and made several trips to school to prepare for the next stretch. I've transformed the room into a ceramics studio as I do every year at this time.

You don't go back till the 8th?!!!! I'd be jealous, but you still have to put in your 180 days anyway, right?

Lots of sleeping (9-10 hours a night!)

Some knitting. (Started and finished a sweater for my son.)

Lots of family time. (Discovered my 8 year-old daughter can consistently beat me at Mancala!)

Absolutely NO school work. Didn't even think about it - and the first week back still went smoothly, so I'm glad I didn't bother!

I don't have to go back till Monday either.

I spent my break taking little day trips around the Hill Country. I saw Longhorn Caverns, Pedernales Falls State Park, and an area called The Slab in Kingsland.

I've read a few books, slept a lot, and cooked a little. I'm excited about getting back to the grind of DISD and starting my masters program.

I slept in a lot as well; visited with friends and family; did a lot of cooking; not very much school work; enjoyed the snow.

Hey -
Just stumbled upon this blog. I like your Mr. Teacher columns - including your resolution to teach numbers in casino slang. Good stuff.

I'm very much attempting to get some momentum going with my own blog - diaryoffools.blogspot.com. Social commentary, observational humor, satire, blah, blah, blah...check it out. If you like it, please spread the love. Thanks!

December 20th was our last day of school prior to the holiday break. On that day I felt a cold coming on and sure enough, by Christmas morning I was in the midst of a fierce cough and wondering how in the he** I could store all this gross stuff in my noggin.

I spent much of my time resting and didn't feel a bit guilty about it!

Well, funny you should ask...

I went to visit my brother in Florida. My whole family met up there, so it was a sort of annual reunion we have but this time we celebrated Christmas with Mickey.

Yes, I went to Epcot on Christmas Day and ate lunch in Morocco, went to the Everglades, ate Cuban food in Miami, went to South Beach where we all went to a Godiva chocolate store (that South Beach Diet must be hard).

Then I visited with some friends from the Fort Worth area, cleared out some junk in my spare bedroom, sold old books and CDs, spent too much time online, hooked up with a few friends in San Antonio.

I also spent too much time online, stayed behind in my Google Reader, redesigned my blog, played with my new iPod some (okay, a LOT), avoided watching or listening to the recordings of my Christmas concert.

Stayed up too late, slept too much (ha), found as many free meals as I could get my hands on, didn't get to go to a Stars game (boo), ate too much junk, and played with my dogs.

Basically, I generally stayed away from any thoughts of school as much as possible.

I do love my job, though. :)

I did nothing and it was wonderful. Actually I worked on websites and just relaxed. I also found two new ways to waste time...Blog365 and a new group on ning for blogging teachers, if you're interested check it out...

My 22 year old son graduated from UT on 12/8 and promptly got married on 12/28. Needless to say I was convinced that I was going to "rest" when I went back to work this morning. That little dream went out the window as the 6th graders entered the classroom!

I shopped, played with my kids, relaxed, and hung out with friends. I did think about work....a little.

I put my three sons in their strait jackets with some long straws so they could reach their soup bowls. I then watched Daniel Craig in his speedos repeatedly coming out of the surf whilst gorging myself silly on chocolate and vasts quantities of booze.
Oh, has school started again?... Must be time to let the kids out...
