Things to be Thankful for

Hey everybody, welcome to the first day of Thanksgiving break!!

I know that some schools are still in session through Tuesday or Wednesday of next week, but the Dallas school district for the past few years has combined the Thanksgiving holiday with a couple of staff development days so that if you got your mandatory training done over the summer, you get the whole week off!

So I thought I'd be a little interactive here. I want to know, what are you thankful for this year? Please leave your response in the comment section and/or post to your own site.

Personally, I am thankful for the following things:

  • Well of course, the fact that the 10 day break from school and the kids is finally here!! (Can I get a "Whup whup!!")
  • A beautiful, loving, wonderfully bubbly fiance
  • A new wallpaper picture on my phone of Nutcracker Darth Vader
  • Incredible friends and family
  • The fact that I've returned to playing volleyball without my back breaking in two
  • The 2 most awesome sci-fi schows on TV right now -- Flashforward and Fringe
  • Turkey and stuffing
  • SOME students in my class that actually listen to what I say and apply it
  • Black cherry vodka and Mountain Dew (I call it a "Black Mountain")
  • My health and job security

I look forward to seeing what YOU are thankful for this year!!

· (as our administration keeps telling us) a job during this recession
· my friends and family
· our continued good health
· resolution to some conflicts at work
· a growing understanding of who my students are

I'm thankful for my family and friends, a new job for my husband (after 9 months of unemployment), my new hometown, and of course all of my blogger friends.

Oh yeah, and my husband and I LOVE Fringe!!!

Your t-shirt ("I teach... therefore I am poor") makes me think of a conversation that a bunch of us had in the staff room at the beginning of last week. Bemoaning our choice of low-paid, high-stress, heavy-workload job, some staff revealed that they are currently involved in a few other things away from school to pull in some more cash, particularly the newly qualified teachers who are obviously at the bottom of a rubbish pay scale. "Activities" included tutoring, pulling pints, teaching English as an additional language to local residents and attempting to get a foothold in the property game. I am thnakful that I am far too busy to even think about getting another job, even if the extra cash would of course come in handy.

Yes, FlashForward is quality! So is TrueBlood!! Enjoy your break.

A friend is doing something similar on her Facebook, posting a "I;m thankful for . . " every day. It is uplifting.

I am thankful that all of the Scribes will be together for Turkey Day.

I am thankful that Our Humble School District has seen fit to keep me on salary, even though I have not had a raise-even a COLA-for two years.

I am thankful that Principal Man has pretty much ignored me and my journalistas this year. Last Spring was too much stress!

Great list! You are truly blessed! Thanks for sharing!

I'd have to put cherry vodka on my list, too. Thanks for the Mt.D idea.

I'm thankful for lots of things this year. Of course, I'm thankful for my husband. (I think there's some clause in our marriage lisence that obligates me to say that.) (NOT that I don't really feel that way!)

In an economy that's kicking a lot of butts, I'm thankful for my job.

Finally, I am thankful for blogs that make me giggle.
