B is for Bribery

Just under 2 weeks till TAKS. I wonder if it's too late to start the bribery.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I've been attempting bribery for months, but I wonder if it's too late to actually start promising to write blank checks to kids who otherwise seem to have no chance of passing. Kids that just MIGHT (on the very mightest edge of the might scale) pass if they took all 7 hours and perused carefully over every question, but who more probably will grab numbers out of word problems and do ungodly things with them. Kids who will say that 8/3 of the balloons are shaded. Kids who will choose "Not here" any and every time that option is presented.

2 more weeks. Are there enough Hot Cheetos in the world to bribe these kids?

Ugh. Tomorrow is the last day of TCAPs for us. We aren't allowed to test our own students, or even students in our grade level, so I've had a fourth grade teacher with my class. He told me one of my kids not only finished the READING section of the test in under ten minutes, the kid then went on to do "dot to dot" with his answer sheet. Lots of erasing to do on that one! It makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time. My "value" as a teacher is in his hands?? TN was one of the first two recipients of the "Race to the Top" money, so our test data will be scrutinized. Yipee. Thanks little buddy.

You are kidding me!! TEN minutes???? Ooooh, that wouldn't make me want to laugh even a little bit. Test monitors be damned, I would rip that kid a new one.

Our State testing is coming up too! 'Tis the season for all the fun that comes with testing. I find it fun sometimes, when I'm reviewing if students answered all parts of the test, to just look at some of the things they write. One student wrote something like, "How the hell should I know that?" I wonder if the state people grading those tests found that as funny as I did.

Eric, it's amusing if you're distanced. Not so amusing if you've poured a ton of effort into that kid to see that he DOES know that info...

Katie, more than happy to vote for your awesome bag! In fact, I'll go one better...
