An extra 45 minutes

I wrote a post over the weekend, and I was going to post it here, but instead I asked the editor of the education blog at the Dallas Morning News if she would be interested in running it on the DMN website.  She agreed to run it, and it is posted today here:

My buddy warned me to be aware that the "haters" would surface, and of course they have.  I don't understand why some people seem to take it upon themselves to consistently make the argument that teachers have no right to complain about anything whatsoever, just because they get summers off from working with kids.

All that time in the summers off? Really? I had about 5 weeks after I did all my mandatory STEM training.

This is such a wonderful video about why teaching is so much more challenging than every before. You are doing a great job and making a difference in your students' lives. America's teachers continue to graduate more and more students-that is something celebrate!

Very well written article, and there will always be haters. One commenter posted he worked his 40 hour week and we should, too! I would love to switch with him and know the feeling of "just a 40 hour work week", with no classes to prep for, no work to take home, no overtime and no weekend/summer vacation work! Thanks for writing this. I am sure many districts across the country will be experiencing this because administration feels more time spent in school = better test grades and smarter students!
