24/7

We got a bulletin in our mailboxes today, beginning with, "This year, two of the courses that are mandatory for all campus staff members will be online. The courses, Confidentiality and Ethics, will be accessible and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."

This makes it sound like we can access the programs at any time and fulfill the requirements at our leisure.

Until I read further and saw that the window for completing the Confidentiality course is August 16-28.

Yeah, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week really doesn't mean jack when you're told about the MANDATORY course the day before the window closes.

I'm seriously thinking about not completing the Confidentiality course. One day notice before the deadline is not acceptable.

We've been through this in my district, too. Every year we have to watch a bunch of videos about different things, and last year instead of having us use up our professional development days doing it, they put them online. Of course we don't have to do them outside our contracted day, but frankly if we're not forced to watch them, we're going to find better things to do with our planning time at school. With us, the worst part was that half the time the videos wouldn't play!

We had our own video crisis this week. On Thursday night, our principal learned that there was one video that had to be viewed by every district employee by Monday! Our Friday was stacked with meetings to plan with our colleagues--the first time we'd had an opportunity--and a meeting on opening day procedures. That schedule had to be all jacked up so we could watch a 60-minute video on crisis response procedures--like if we have a Columbine-like incident going down. My role as a teacher: lock the door, move everyone away from the windows, and keep silent. An HOUR!

3. Find “Compliance" in the Course Category and select it.
4. Select "Confidentiality"
5. Enter the enrollment key "money" when prompted
6. Take the entire course by completing each module, taking the final assessment, and attesting to completing the work by filling in the Certification of Completion.
7. Print your certificate and present a copy to the campus principal.
Ethics (Accessible August 23-September 30) The Ethics course is housed on the same website. However, you must go to another Course Category to access it. To access and complete the Ethics course, follow these steps:
1. Go to http://mydallasisdonline.org/
2. Log on to the site using your employee identification number as both the user name and password.
3. Find “Ethics" in the Course Category and select it.
4. Select "Ethics for Campus Staff"
5. Enter the enrollment key "thinking" when prompted
6. Take the entire course by completing each module, taking the final assessment, and attesting to completing the work by filling in the Certification of Completion.

It will take you approximately one hour and 15 minutes to complete the two courses. This can be done from your home computer or DISD computer.
